What is ego and what is ownership? If I make something I immediately see it through the eyes of others who judge my work. I want them to like it and love me and I want their attention. So I can grow and be a big artist. I want to be seen and I want to be recognized. I think that I have this existential longing from when I was a kid waiting for the approval of my parents. But if you are working together you have to share. You have to let go of your ego and you have to be able to be subservient to the other. This is my experience working on this presentation with Alex Winters and I found it very liberating and joyfull. It made me realize that if I want to make cool and interesting things I have to be subservient to the creative process.
I know Alex for a long time. We were working together at art school and a few years after that. We formed a duo named BUXUS. We didn’t have a real plan when starting installing the 18 window cases at Bad foundation. Alex brought drawings and art pieces that never been exhibited and I painted wooden panels and collected all kinds of materials and unfinished pieces from my studio. We discussed what to do, both wanting to collaborate but on the other hand holding on to our own creations. After struggling for a while to find the right form we starting to mix our work together. We placed work in front of each others work or used a work to support an other work. Every window case contains a creative moment, an idea what to do and what to combine, resulting in a creative story eighteen cases long..
